Snoe Man Brings Color to Washington Heights

Text and images by Ines Fahmi.

A local street artist has been making the Washington Heights neighborhood more colorful by painting over the streets, walls, local shops and trucks.

Up and down Broadway and Amsterdam avenues, you can see vibrant murals all seeming to come from the same universe: Snoeman’s.

His motifs have become part of the neighborhood’s identity, transforming blank walls into landmarks and bringing in more creativity to this already culturally-rich area.

The bold, cartoon-like figures, colorful lettering and playful symbols blend perfectly into the community, each piece feeling like a burst of energy, like on St Nicolas Avenue at 162nd Street, in the top image.
